Although we have written extensively on the subject and give a two hour lecture to professionals, many people do not have the time or inclination to read or listen for this long - so having stumbled upon the '5 Minute University' we were inspired to create the 60 second University for Basement Waterproofing.

The syllabus is basically everything you need to know about basement waterproofing - but without the whys and wherefores, it is the essense of what you need to remember out of any comprehensive training course on the subject:-

1. Do I need a pump? even if my basement has never flooded in the past?

YES - Because you don't want it to flood in the FUTURE

2. What is the most reliable basement waterproofing method?

Drained Cavity (defined as type C in the British Standard of 1990) wiith underfloor channeling.

3. What is the cheapest way to waterproof my basement?

Do it right first time.

4. Why can't I use cement or bonded waterproofing membrane to hold water pressure back

It will fail when the structure moves

5. Why do I need a thermally insulated membrane and not just a plastic one?

Condensation can occur on plastic membranes

6. But isn't tanking free of maintenance and a pump needs maintenance?

The truth is that both need maintenance but only one (the pumped system) CAN be maintained, maintaining a cement tanking system means stripping it off, repairing the cracks and starting over.
